ABOUT MAMTECH

Mampong Technical College of Education is a teacher education college in Mampong – Ashanti in the Mampong Municipal. It is one of the 46 public colleges in Ghana. Mampong Technical College of Education was founded in 1922 as one of the four trade Schools across the country established by the then Governor of the Gold Coast, Governor Sir Fredrick Gordon Guggisberg. Since its establishment the institution has been redesigned to play different roles at different periods. The designation includes;
– Trade School (1922 – 1937)
– Borstal Institute/Boys Correction home (1937 – 1941)
– Army Camp (Outbreak of World War II) (1941 – 1945)
– Government Trade School (1945 – 1960)
– Junior Technical Institute (1969 – 1976)
– Technical Teachers College (1976 – 2007)
– Mampong Technical College of Education (2007 – Date)

In 1967, the college offered the 5 year Handicraft Teacher’s Certificate A. In 1967, the 3 year Post Secondary programme was introduced in the college. In September 2004 3-Year Diploma in Basic Education program was introduced with Technical Skills as an area of specialization.

Currently, Mampong Technical College of Education which prides itself as the only all-male College of Education in Ghana, offers a 4 Year Bachelor Degree in Basic Education Junior Secondary School Programme. The College has over the years been a trailblazer in piloting programmes for training teachers to handle Pre-Technical Skills at the Basic Level of Education in Ghana.

Presently, not all students offer Technical Skills as a core and Elective subject. Students may offer the following options if they have offered any of these as an elective subject at the Senior High School.

The College has a great track record in the field of sports, having retained a hockey championship trophy  and emerging football and cross country championships at the Ashanti Brong/Ahafo Teacher Training College Games (ASHBA Games) in 2006.
