SPECIAL FAREWELL IN HONOUR OF THE OUTGOING PRINCIPAL OF MAMTECH

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, a special event was held to honor the outgoing Principal of Mampong Technical College of Education (MAMTECH) at the Eleanor Akuffo Addo Community Centre in Mampong-Ashanti. The ceremony served a dual purpose: a farewell party to celebrate the principal’s retirement and a birthday celebration. The event was a testament to her impactful tenure and a heartfelt send-off.

The event was a large affair, bringing together a diverse group of people from various sectors. It highlighted the principal’s wide-ranging influence and connections. The guest list included a variety of distinguished individuals including government officials from various government bodies underscoring the principal’s role in public service, a representative of the member of parliament of Asante Mampong which highlighted the political significance of her work.

Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives and their representatives as well as local government leaders also attended, demonstrating her strong ties to the community.

Principals of sister colleges of education were there to show solidarity and respect.

Members of staff, from tutors to administrative personnel, were present to celebrate their leader.

Religious and community members including pastors and church members of the Assemblies of God churches, along with family members and the general public, also joined in the celebration, reflecting her personal and community connections.

A key part of the ceremony was a comprehensive tribute to the principal’s career, delivered by the College Registrar, Mr. Samuel Opoku. His speech detailed her long and distinguished history in the Ghana Education Service.

Career and Service

The principal dedicated 40 years of her life to the Ghana Education Service. Her career was marked by a progression through various important roles, showcasing her versatility and commitment:

  • Facilitator with Distance Education: She played a role in making education accessible to a wider audience.
  • Housemistress and Senior Housemistress: These roles at St. Monica’s College of Education highlight her commitment to student welfare and discipline.
  • Vice Principal: Her time as a vice principal at St. Monica’s prepared her for the top leadership role she would later assume at MAMTECH.

Projects and Achievements

The Registrar’s speech also focused on the principal’s significant contributions to Mampong Technical College of Education, which were categorized year by year. Her achievements were a mix of physical infrastructure improvements, administrative enhancements, and student/staff welfare initiatives.

  • 2019: The principal began her tenure with foundational projects, including the construction of the eastern stretch of the College wall, enhancing the college’s security and appearance. Other notable projects included acquiring accounting software for the finance office, painting all facilities, and enhancing the main entrance gate.
  • 2020: This year saw multiple construction and renovation projects. She oversaw the renovation of four staff bungalows, the construction of a car park for management, and the building of a water station to improve water supply. Other key actions included providing a clocking machine for attendance tracking, fencing the pavilion, and insuring all college vehicles.
  • 2021: Key infrastructure projects continued, with the renovation of two staff bungalows and the completion of the southern wall. She also made significant investments in student amenities, purchasing 400 double beds and 800 mattresses, as well as 500 lecture hall furniture to improve learning conditions.
  • 2022: A particularly busy year, marked by extensive renovations and refurbishments. Projects included the renovation and refurbishment of the College kitchen, science laboratories, and the Visual Arts Studio. The principal also oversaw the rewiring of the college library, the construction of a garage for buses, and the refurbishment of the guest house. She also initiated training programs for security personnel and workshops for tutors and staff to improve professional development.
  • 2023: This year was focused on major construction projects. The 18-unit classroom block was initiated, and the top floor of the administration block began construction. She also embarked on the significant Centenary Project, which is a 3,500-capacity seater auditorium. Other notable projects included the refurbishment of lecture halls and the acquisition of furniture for academic staff.
  • 2024: The principal continued to oversee the completion of major projects. This included the completion of Phase One of the 18-unit Lecture Hall and the reconstruction of the top floor of the administration block. She also ensured the provision of refuse containers, the establishment of a cassava farm, and the purchase of graduation gowns for students.
  • 2025: In her final year, the principal continued her work, focusing on completing ongoing projects. This included internal fittings for the 18-unit lecture hall, the top floor of the administration block, and the construction of new security posts and toilet facilities. Her final act was to oversee the reconstruction of the management car park and the painting of the MTCE Primary School.

The ceremony came to a successful end with a closing prayer by the resident pastor of the Upper Room Assemblies of God, Mampong-Ashanti.
