Technical/Vocational department is the oldest and the spine of the college which all other departments are attached. The Institution started as a Trade School and then changed to Bostal home for correction of deviant youth after the world wars. It was then changed to trade school where skills like masonry, carpentry, metalwork and more were learnt until it was changed to technical teacher training to train technical teachers for the country. The department has since it’s inception been known for skill training and development till now. The department has the following units under it:

Mampong Technical College of Education was founded in 1922 as one of the four trade Schools across the country established by the then Governor of the Gold Coast, Governor Sir Fredrick Gordon Guggisberg.
